Pisa: Much Much Better Than I Expected!

Sunday of the Tuscany excursion was for Pisa.  And, I gotta tell you, I came away pleasantly surprised.  I don't know why, but I thought the Leaning Tower was going to be cheesy.  It really was not on my agenda at all, but my friend suggested we go there for a day-trip while in Tuscany and I said, "why not?"  It was a good call.

The Leaning Tower is totally beautiful.  I was picturing something shabby and worn-down and just not that interesting.  Wrong!  It's fantastic.  The climb up on a sweltering summer day is probably not for everyone, but if you're even considering a day-trip to Pisa, do it.

The other thing is that it's not just the Leaning Tower.  The tower is part of the Campo dei Miracoli, or "Field of Miracles."  It's a complex of 4 awesome sites that are right next to each other: the Leaning Tower, the Duomo, the Bapistry, and the Camposanto.  They really are all exquisite.

So, it's not a place for you to stay for several days.  But Pisa is definitely a good place to go for a day-trip.  You will love the Campo dei Miracoli.
